NotiZen Widget and the Road to Custom Notion Filters
NotiZen Widget started around my own workflow, and now I am expanding it toward reusable, customizable Notion views for the Android home screen.
NotiZen Widget is an Android home screen widget for Notion that helps bring tasks and custom views to the home screen in a flexible, closed-beta-friendly setup.

Connected your Notion database but the widget is empty?
You've linked a Notion database to NotiZen Widget, but the widget view still looks empty. In most cases, this does not mean your database is broken. It usually means the selected view configuration and the available properties are not aligned yet.
What’s really happening
NotiZen Widget reads directly from your Notion database, and some widget views depend on the properties used in that view. Older or default layouts tend to work best when your database includes common task fields such as a title, a date, and a way to tell whether something is done. Newer custom-view directions are meant to support more flexible setups, so the goal is not one rigid database template.
Common properties that help widget views work well
- A title or task name — so the widget has a clear primary label to show.
- A date property — useful for daily views, reminders, and time-based sorting.
- A done/status signal — often a checkbox or status property, depending on your setup.
- Optional tags or categories — helpful when a view groups or filters items.
You do not need to force every database into the same exact property names. The important part is that the selected widget view has the information it expects to display.
Basic compatibility checks
- Choose a database that includes usable task and date properties.
- Review the selected widget view configuration and make sure it matches that data.
- If the widget still looks empty, refresh it or reselect the database in settings.
- If you are using a default or legacy view, try common property types first.
In other words, think of setup as view compatibility, not as one universal template. NotiZen is moving toward custom views that support a wider range of personal workflows.
If it still doesn't look right
Try reconnecting the database, selecting the view again, and checking that the fields you want to show are actually populated in Notion. Empty date fields or empty task names are a common reason a view feels blank.
